The evening event included performances by Liberty's excellent (really!) jazz band and orchestra, speeches by students, district leaders, Liberty's principal, WSAC project manager Mike Sweney, and me. Twice daily, like sunrise and sunset, rippling water-effect light floods the room to celebrate the students’ arrival and departure-heralding their progress and passage.īuilt in sections in the studio, finally all eleven silk panels of Illuminated Passage can be viewed as a whole and complete mural. Illuminated Passage brightens their journey through these formative years with natural canyon imagery in brilliant jewel colors. Students passing through Liberty Middle School-and adolescence-are like gathered river waters navigating into, through, and out of a canyon to a completely new environment. The Memphis Twilight, for which full results are at this link, was a testament to the high level of competition in cross country, featuring athletes from various states and age groups, all delivering remarkable performances.Illuminated passage silk mural for liberty middle school The Boys 5k Run Varsity saw Andrew Hauser from Rock Bridge, MO, setting the pace at 15:16.95, while in the Girls 5k Run Varsity, Emma Wade from Cedar Park Vista Ridge, TX, took the top spot with a time of 18:19.68. The Girls 2k Run Middle School was a nail-biter, with Carrie Ann Brown from Tupelo barely edging out Gabrielle Gulstrom by a mere 0.03 seconds. From nail-biting finishes to record-setting times, the Memphis Twilight Cross Country Meet was a night to remember.
